My Mission: Promote the Health and Wellness Power of Crafts and Hobbies

The incredible therapeutic value crafts and hobbies can have on your everyday life should not be undervalued.

As a crafter over the last 20 years, I have used crafts and hobbies to quit smoking, drink less, find social connections, reduce stress and find joy in an otherwise dreary day.

These last few years have been extra challenging, and I have had to overcome some difficult life challenges including serious illness, work burnout, personal loss, and unemployment. With that came a lot of time spent just trying to survive the day without totally losing it. I wasn’t always successful 🙂

But my Crafts and Hobbies are what helped me through all these times. When I did not have a friend to call or someone to help me when I was sicker than sick, I had my crafts and hobbies to work through the stress and grief.

Crafts and Hobbies are what motivated me to continue on.

So, it was devastating last spring when I reached a point so sick, I couldn’t do my normal crafts or hobbies anymore! I was absolutely miserable!!

As someone who uses crafts as a creative outlet to get through stress and hard times, I didn’t know what to do at this point.

But luckily I came across the world of paper flower making. It was an easy enough craft I could handle and I had everything I needed to give it a try!

They were easy to make and really lifted my spirits in those dark days.

I thought to myself, even if the flowers don’t work out, it was just scrap paper out of the bin. I had nothing to lose making a few paper flowers that afternoon. So, I dug in and had a blast. I scribbled my heart out, getting all the stress of the last few months out.

I felt good again. My mood had improved and I was happier than I had been in months. I was still stick, but I had a fun afternoon, making some pretty flowers and I really enjoyed myself. It didn’t cost me anything and I have beautiful flowers for my table now.

So, I am thrilled to share this healing craft experience with you in the hopes that it may help you find a way to uplift your spirits.

If you are struggling and need a little kick of joy one afternoon, make a scrappy flower with some paper from the bin! make any craft! do your favourite hobby!

I made my life day better and got over terrible stress by Crafting for My Health and Scheduling a Mental Health Craft Break making Scrappy Flowers, and so can you! 🙂
